I’m using a bunch of Epson Printers all setup in Google Cloud Print (GCP). Of course there are other things on these printers like Epson Connect, but GCP is the only option for a Chromebook I also have in my collection, and I’ve been hoping GCP would work as a universal solution that would let me print anything from anywhere. E.g., I work design files at home, and would like to send these to a tabloid printer at the office.
Cloud Printer installs an app that provides you with visibility into all of your Google Cloud Printers, and then allows you to download a script from the developer to setup a “virtual” device that the system can print to. By printing to this “Google-Cloud-Printer”, a job is processed and then sent to the Cloud Printer application. In the application, the job is then held and listed as the “active job” at the bottom of the application, and once you select a printer from the list of Google Cloud Printers, you click on the “submit job” button to send your job to that printer. So an extra hop beyond just printing to the target device, but this extra hop allows you to print from any application, e.g. Adobe Photoshop, and still send your job to any google cloud printer.
Makes GCP much more useful, and if Google weren’t fixated on GCP being mostly about Chromebooks, I would have expected an application like this from them.
Thanks Somasundaram!
